OLMEntor

Summary and description

The OLMEntor is a demonstrator for knowledge maturing from an organisational point of view. As for business people the maturing process of knowledge assets is not easy to understand, the demonstrator can help to unterstand the main ideas.

Based on the application scenarios of Connexions Kent & Medway and Careers Scotland a mock up of a MATURE desktop is provided to show how

  • relevant knowledge artefacts (e.g. documents or information on experts) are automatically selected and presented to the user (e.g. a P.A.) related to the tasks (process steps) she has to execute

  • the selection and presentation of knowledge artefacts can change depending on taken actions (e.g. rating an article, adding metadata)

  • the MATURE knowledge base can be enhanced not only by adding new documents, articles etc. but also by adding comments to existing knowledge artefacts

  • MATURE can support automated knowledge artefact creation by retrieving and aggregating knowledge of various sources (e.g. blogs, wikis, document repository, yellow pages)

  • new tasks can be automatically created and

  • new communities, working groups can be identified.

The goal of the OLMEntor is to show how MATURE helps to get ‘the right information at the right time to the right people’, supports good decision taking (e.g. taking historical cases into consideration), supports identifaciton of knowledge gaps (respectively learning opportunities) and identifies new domains of interest.

From the business user's perspective the OLMEntor demonstrates how

  • knowledge search and acquisition can be supported
  • knowledge annotation can be done
  • individual learning can be fostered
  • experts, working groups, communities related the own work can be identified
  • new knowledge artefacts can be created based on aggreation/extraction of existing knowledge artefacts.
